DAN 1A: Beginning

Starts Jan 18, 2025
220 US dollars

Class Description

This course is especially for absolute beginners. We will begin by easing into Danish pronunciation and how it relates to spelling (in surprising ways!). We'll practice with dialogues and "question/answer" activities. Themes include greetings, shopping, work, prices, and time. We'll take a look at some of the grammar basics, and you'll get tips about expressing politeness in a language that has no one word for "please" but a million ways to say thank you! We'll use a combination of textbook pages (colloquial Danish, 2nd edition), "handouts" that will be shared online during class and/or sent to you in an email, and self-study supplemental materials available online exclusively to students in the class. The free online copy of the textbook can be found here: https://www.letsdansk.com/_files/ugd/38995c_214fb56375f84665874c3861d194fc66.pdf

LATE ENROLLMENT Students may join classes any time between the 1st and 3rd weeks by paying full tuition. Contact SLI if you are enrolling late. STUDENTS WITHDRAWING FROM OR CHANGING CLASSES If a student wants to leave a class, there are 4 possibilities open to them: 1) Move to another class (available up to and including the 3rd class day) 2) Receive a tuition credit from SLI, prorated if applicable (always available). 3) Receive a full or partial refund, as described below (available up to but not including the 3rd class day). 4) Donate the tuition to SLI (always available). DETAILS (to implement any of these options, please call 425-773-5370 or write to admin@scanlang.org) 1) Move to another class. You may move to a different class (even to a different language!) up to (and including) the 3rd class as long as the instructor agrees. After the 3rd class, this option is no longer available. Moving to Another Class: Tuition Differences. If the New Course costs MORE: the student will pay the difference between the amounts. If the New Course costs LESS:, SLI will apply the difference to a future class, issue a refund for it, or the student can donate it to SLI. Example A: Old Course: $110, New Course: $150. Student pays $40, regardless of the week the student moves to the new class. Example B: Old Course: $200, New Course: $180. SLI applies $20 to a future class, issues a refund, or student donates it. 2) Apply the tuition to a later class. You may request that SLI keep your tuition and apply it toward another class in the future. When you take the later class, please do not book online. Instead, contact SLI and tell us which class you want to apply your credit to. 3) Receive a refund. Contact SLI for a refund before the 3rd class day to completely withdraw from a class, and you will be issued a full refund minus a minimal processing fee. Partial refunds resulting from a move to another class (#1 above) will be available up to and including the 3rd class day. 4) Donate. If you wish to donate the money to SLI, let us know and we will issue you a receipt. Remember that donations are tax-deductible. We thank you! COURSE CANCELLATION This will occur if enrollment is too low. We will notify you, and you can decide which option you want. No processing fee will be subtracted from these refunds.
